Congratulations to Kimberly D. Tanner of San Francisco State University, the just announced SCST 2012 Outstanding Undergraduate Science Teacher Award winner! This year's award is co-sponsored by Springer Publishing (www.springer.com). Dr. Tanner, a neurobiologist by training, is Associate Professor of Biology at SFSU. She is an innovative teacher and prolific science education researcher and it is an honor to present this award to her. Dr. Tanner will receive the award on March 30 at the SCST College Luncheon to be held during the NSTA/SCST national convention in Indianapolis.

Stay tuned to this blog for information we'll share later this fall about the 2013 nomination cycle for next year's OUSTA.

Dear SCST Members:

We have a wonderful opportunity with NSTA to work on a monograph as authors, exemplary professors, and reviewers. Please see the attached message below and contact me at brian.r.shmaefsky@lonestar.edu (SCST President) if you know any exemplary activities in :

"This is to invite your help and involvement in the NSTA Exemplary Science Program (ESP) efforts. I hope to initiate a search for exemplary science teaching exhibited by college teachers.

"Are you willing to help NSTA with an ESP monograph consisting of at least 15-20 chapters that indicate what is being done to improve college science teaching? As you know I want to do such a volume in collaboration with you and the whole SCST leadership team. I would like to think that there are exciting reform efforts underway with your members! How many are there? Would not the editor of the “College Science Teaching Journal” be pleased to help locate places and people? Does the Association have a newsletter?

With exciting college science faculty already aware of reforms and trying ideas (that is why they are members of your organization!), it should be an easy task. If we could get 15-30 people and colleges selected, we will share our outline for such chapters and get well underway before fall classes commence! I look forward to your reactions!

Topics include college faculty involved in:

1) Exemplary Science in Grades PreK-4

2) Exemplary Science in Grades 5-8

3) Exemplary Science in Grades 9-12

4) Exemplary Science: Best Practices in Professional Development

5) Inquiry: The Key to Exemplary Science

6) Exemplary Science in Informal Education Settings

7) Exemplary Science for Resolving Societal Challenges

8) Careers in Science and Technology – in progress

9) STEM Efforts – in progress

            10) College Science Teaching – in progress

Is the membership form for SCST available online somewhere? I just realized that my membership expired at the end of May and wanted to renew my membership, but I can't seem to find the information. Thanks!

Where can I find information on next year's SCST / NSTA conference? I would like to present a paper next Spring, if possible, and am looking for registration information.
